The Restaurant at the Fitzwilliam Hotel

My husband and I had plans to have dinner at Mourne Seafood Bar this evening, but when we arrived, we were told that there were no available bookings, so we went back to our hotel, The Fitzwilliam Hotel, and had dinner in the hotel restaurant.

starter: local Irish goat cheese, carpaccio and heritage beets,
pickled oyster mushrooms

entree: smoked Donegal haddock with sautéed new potatoes,
baby spinach, and Rockefeller garnish

side order: creamed cabbage and bacon

dessert: strawberry and elderflower tart, crème patisserie
raspberry and gin sorbet

White's Tavern

My husband and I spent the day in Belfast, Northern Ireland, today. Not one for usually going strictly off the guidebook dining recommendations, we nevertheless, decided have lunch at White's Tavern, one of the oldest taverns in Belfast.

I started with s small caesar salad with chicken.

I also had some very good pork, leek, and stout sausages.

The Crown Liquor Saloon

My husband and I arrived in Belfast today; we'll be staying for two nights. While our hotel is on the upscale side and what looks like has a nice restaurant, we had heard about The Crown Liquor Saloon, a Victorian gin palace built in the 1880s. The Saloon was conveniently located a very short distance from our hotel.

We both had a steak and Guinness pie, which was really
excellent.

The Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre

The first thing my husband and I did this morning was to visit the Giant's Causeway, after which we had lunch in their excellent Visitors Centre. (Really, it was one of the best visitor centers I've ever visited; it was organized very well, and the food was surprisingly good.)

We each had as a scone. 

I also had a sausage roll.

I also ate most of a chicken, bacon, and mayo sandwich.

The Causeway Hotel Restaurant

As my husband and I have been touring around Ireland, this afternoon we drove up to Northern Ireland, where we plan on seeing Dunluce Castle and Giant's Causeway, as well as driving down to Belfast via the Causeway Coastal Route. Tonight we're staying at the Causeway Hotel, and had dinner in their restaurant.

appetizer: smoked North Atlantic sea trout with local tomato
and Bloody Mary salad

entree: Northern Irish steak burger (cheddar, onion rings,
smoked bacon, homemade tomato relish)

dessert: Glastry Farms ice cream - strawberry (left) and
chocolate and salted caramel

Belleek Tea Room

My husband and I went on the Belleek Pottery Tour this afternoon. First, though, we had lunch at the Belleek Tea Room.

We both had some sausage rolls and Cornish pasties.

While my husband had a very good pear tartlet, I had a
lovely slice of cake, the name of which I never did find out.
