I'd heard about Fish Frenzy while researching the Tasmania section of our Australian trip, so we headed there for dinner tonight. We both had the smokey seafood chowder and the blue eye trevalla, although I went with the beer battered option, and we shared some chips as well.

Sydney Fish Market
My husband and I decided to take a look around Sydney Fish Market today, and planned our visit so that we would have time for lunch. There were a lot of choices, and some really good looking seafood all over the place, so we decided to try a few different places.
First, we had a Nicholas Platter 1 from Nicholas Seafood Traders, which came with two lobster tails; a white fish fillet; two octopus skewers; three scallop Mornays; two Singapore chill prawns; flower-cut squid; calamari rings; and white bait; as well as a garden salad, fries, and sweet potatoes.
Of course, this was not nearly enough food, so we had sushi from Peter's Fish Market, where we tried the salmon, the tuna, the cooked salmon, the eel, and the Moreton Bay Bug, as well as one more type (in the lower right corner) that I'm not sure of.

Current Fish & Oyster
Tonight, my husband and I went to a holiday concert in downtown Salt Lake City. We decided to make it a date night, and had dinner beforehand at Current Fish & Oyster.

Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar
Tonight, my husband and I decided (well, I decided) we were in the mood to go out for dinner, so we went to the Market Street Grill & Oyster Bar.
We tried the Oysters Rockefeller, which were good, but we decided that we're just not into oysters. |
We also had the Atlantic smoked salmon; it was like a somewhat deconstructed bagel. |
The clam chowder was pretty good. |
My New England cod fish 'n' chips were not quite what I was expecting. They were okay, but I wouldn't order them again. |

Joe's Crab Shack
I had a milestone birthday earlier this week, but unfortunately it was on one of my very long days so my husband very kindly took me to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner tonight.
We shared an order of crab nachos. |
I had the Arctic Bay Steampot (Queen crab, shrimp, a whole Maine lobster, smoke sausage, potatoes, and corn in a garlic bath and topped with Old Bay seasoning). |

Mourne Seafood Bar
When my husband and I were in Belfast, Northen Ireland, last week, we had tried to go to Mourne Seafood Bar for dinner, but the place was full up. The good news was that there was a Dublin location, so over the weekend I made reservations for us to have dinner there tonight; the bad news was that I was still so full from lunch, I couldn't eat more than a few bits of my dinner (half the soup, and maybe a quarter of the entree).

Red Lobster
My husband and I are in town for my graduation from Northern Arizona University (from which I'm receiving my Master's in English). My parents came out to help us celebrate, as did my father-in-law and his sister. Tonight we went out to Red Lobster.
I ordered the excellent Roasted Maine Lobster Bake: petite Maine lobster tails, baby gold potatoes, and corn on the cob. |
I ordered a side of Langostino lobster mashed potatoes. |

And for dessert: chocolate wave cake. |

Joe's Crab Shack
My husband and I had celebrated my birthday over the weekend, but because today is my actual birthday, my husband kindly agreed to take me to Joe's Crab Shack (one of my favorite restaurants) for dinner tonight.

Crab nachos: One of the best appetizers ever. |

I also had a cup of clam chowder. |

I also got a steampot with a lobster, some crab legs, a spicy sausage, shrimp, potatoes, and an ear of corn, all steamed in a garlicky buttery sauce. (I love the steampots.) |

The Steam Room
We had much of the day to ourselves, and since it was beautifully warm and sunny outside, so I took my husband to explore the familiar environs of Port Jefferson.
You can't quite tell from this picture, but Bridgeport, CT, is across the Long Island Sound; the car ferry, pictured, goes back and forth several times a day. |
After we walked around for a little while, we stopped at The Steam Room for lunch.
I started with the seafood bisque... |
...and then had a lobster roll, which was quite tasty. |

Port Jeff Lobster House
My husband and I are in Long Island for a friend's wedding; we arrived this evening and went in search of a late dinner. Having lived in Long Island for just over eight years, I'm familiar with various good restaurants in various parts of the island (of which there are many), but the Port Jeff Lobster House was one seafood restaurant that I'd been to a number of times and had remembered fondly; quite conveniently, it was a very short drive from our hotel.
We both had bowls of lobster bisque. |
My husband ordered one of the Thursday night specials: the Lobster Fest, which came with a whole lobster, mussels, corn on the cob, and a potato. |
I had the seafood paella, which was fantastic. |

Lækjarbrekka
Lækjarbrekka is one of the few places I could find in Reykjavik that serves a very specific Icelandic delicacy called Hákarl - fermented shark. Hákarl is traditionally served as part of a þorramatur, a selection of traditional foods served at þorrablót, a mid-winter festival. I didn't think it smelled anywhere near as badly as I had heard it would, and it tasted all right, too: a bit chewy, but a bit buttery.

It was served in a small mason jar, and we had the option of getting a shot of Brennivin along with it. (We ordered the Brennivin.) |
We shared a salmon starter: It came with dill, pickled cucumber, rye bread, and skyr dill sauce. |
Compliments of the chef: a salmon mousse with salsa. |
I ordered the mountain and bay: panfried fillet of lamb, broiled langoustine, ratte potatoes, and thyme sauce. |
![]() |
dessert: dark chocolate brownie with granola, chocolate fondant, and vanilla ice cream. |
The entire waitstaff was wonderful, but one fellow in particular was amazing: He paid special attention to us (for no reason I could discern), and stopped by often to joke around with us. Apparently he had invented a drink that won various prizes: the red rose, which came with Bombay, Martini extra dry, Routin Raspberry 1883, and DeKuyper Raspberry Pucker. I had a sip of my husband's.

Scandinavian Smorrebrod & Brasserie
My husband and I took a short walk to find lunch today, having decided that we would just wander until we found a place for lunch that looked promising. In short oder we decided that Scandinavian Smorrebrod & Brasserie would fit the bill nicely.
I ordered an open-faced salmon sandwich, which was served on buttered toast and came with chilled scrambled egg, and dill sauce.

Restaurant Reykjavik
In several of our guidebooks, I'd read that Restaurant Reykjavik had a seafood buffet every night starting at 6 p.m.; since we'd eaten early today, we decided to go try out this buffet. It was pretty impressive! There were both hot and cold seafood dishes, and small samplers of desserts as well, so one could try any amount of anything that appealed.
I tried whale for the first time tonight; it was smoked. It was a dark meat, almost gamey. I'm not sure I liked it, but it was interesting to try. The salmon was pretty delicious, though, as was the seafood casserole.

Ósinn
My husband and I continued our drive along the Ring Road (Route 1) in Iceland; tonight we're staying in Höfn. It's a small town but had several options for dinner; we decided on Ósinn, in Hótel Höfn.

We both started with the lobster glacier soup, made with icebergs from Vatnajökull glacier. It was good. |
My husband had tbe lobster ravioli. |
I had the lobster "Höfn Meets Asia": oven grilled lobster tails with spiced garlic and butter, along with lobster spring rolls. |

Icelandic Fish & Chips
After our foray into the Blue Lagoon earlier today, my husband and I drove north to Reykjavik, where we're staying overnight. We scoured our guidebooks and travel guides for dinner suggestions; although we're coming back to Reykjavik in about a week and a half (and will be staying for several days at the end of our trip), we didn't want to go out at a fancy restaurant (we don't have the clothing for it); we didn't want a burger joint or American (we can get that at home anytime), nor did we want Italian, Indian, or other "ethnic" food. We're in Iceland, darnit - we want Icelandic food!
As such, we eventually decided on Icelandic Fish & Chips for dinner. It wasn't great, although it had initially promised to be: One of my pieces of fish wasn't quite cooked all the way through, and my potatoes were dripping in oil. Our order had also been misplaced, and we wound up waiting nearly 45 minutes for our meal. (And the price of the bread basket we ordered had to be refunded because they'd run out.)

Joe's Crab Shack
Tonight my husband and I had the chance to watch and hang out with my husband's 10-year-old goddaughter. After taking her to the Boondocks Fun Center, where we played a couple rounds of mini-golf, sent her on the bumper boats, and won over 630 tickets from their arcade, we headed to Joe's Crab Shack for dinner.
We started with crab nachos. |
I had a side order of a crab cake, which came with a spicy sauce. (Mmm, saucy.) |
My entree was the Caesar salad, which tasted like it had a dash of Tabasco, with grilled chicken. |
